Garden Club of Madison
Founded 1922
Since its creation in 1922 the Garden Club of Madison’s purpose has remained unchanged: … to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, to share the advantages of association by means of educational meetings, conferences, and publications, and to restore, improve, and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.
Service to our community has been a hallmark of the Club since its inception. As a member of The Garden Club of America, we share its vision of informed volunteers working for a beautiful, healthy planet.
Our Focus
-
The Garden Club of Madison (GCM) initiates and supports many community projects, both financially and through the volunteer work of our members. One of the most important roles adopted by GCM is in restoring and improving common spaces in Madison.
-
The Club seeks to nurture the knowledge and love of gardening, to promote useful and valuable plants, and to conserve those at risk. We help educate our community in responsible ways to plant, propagate, grow, and show.
-
GCM hosts programs, workshops, and competitions focused on the creative arts, including floral design, horticulture, and photography. The purpose is to set standards of artistic and horticultural excellence, to broaden knowledge of these creative arts, and to share the beauty of a flower show with fellow club members and the public.
-
From the time of its founding, the Garden Club of America has been an active force in the promotion of environmental awareness and the preservation of natural resources. GCM’s Conservation Committee works to carry out conservation and environmental stewardship through education and action.

We encourage you to come see what we’re all about! Contact us to attend one of our meetings as a guest. We are an active and engaged group of volunteers and we rely entirely on members for all activities, including governance, civic projects, and programs. Membership is through an application process, providing enough time to allow for prospective members to evaluate the level of commitment and to get to know members more personally.
