About Garden Club of Madison

The Garden Club of Madison was founded on March 16, 1922, by thirteen women.  Shortly after the first meeting the membership was increased to its present limit of fifty active members. A major milestone in our history was joining the Garden Club of America in 1998. Today we are a thriving organization of over 80 active and sustaining members sharing the GCA’s vision of informed volunteers working for a beautiful, healthy planet.

We collaborate with other community organizations and the Garden Club of America on our longstanding civic activities and conservation and environmental protection projects. In celebration of the Club’s centennial, three unique and worthwhile projects were undertaken to give back to our community. A centennial garden was planted in Summerhill Park; 100 Monarch Butterfly kits were given to interested members of the community; and the Madison Community Garden received two new hoop houses and raised plot beds for handicap accessibility.

In addition to its civic projects, the Club conducts monthly business and program meetings from September through June. The Club meets in a variety of local venues and the meetings feature lectures, educational workshops, and club competitions in horticulture, floral design, and photography.
