Projects & Partnerships

These are just a few of our most recent civic projects…

Founders Fund – Growing it Green in Paterson, NJ

The Garden Club of Madison was a 2020 Founders Fund grant recipient, receiving a $10,000 grant to support Growing it Green in Paterson, NJ. In collaboration with the Great Swamp Watershed Association and Rutgers University, the project supports the expansion of a transformational school rain garden program established in 2017.

Partners For Plants (P4P) ProjectMadison Recreation Complex Wildflower Meadow

The Garden Club of Madison received a GCA P4P grant for its Madison Recreation Complex Wildflower Meadow. The project's mission is to restore public open space that has been overtaken by invasive plant species and create a wildflower meadow using native plants that will attract birds, butterflies, bees and other pollinators and become a destination for visitors to enjoy.

Gibbons Pines Park Stormwater Swale

In partnership with the Borough of Madison and the Friends of Madison Shade Trees, the Garden Club of Madison installed water-tolerant native rain garden plants in a stormwater swale, and pollinator-friendly native plants in an adjacent garden bed.  Additional native species were added to provide season-long food for wildlife, to qualify it as a Monarch Waystation, and to inhibit weeds.  Click here for more background and here for a list of species.

GC of Madison Supports City Green in Clifton, NJ

Thanks to a $10,000 grant from The Garden Club of America’s New Jersey Committee, City Green, an urban farm and garden organization in Clifton, NJ, recently acquired two portable hoop houses to grow vegetables year-round. The grant was secured by the Garden Club of Madison to support City Green’s mission to revitalize urban areas through agriculture and educational programing.

Summerhill Park Centennial Garden

A specimen tree and ecologically sound shrubs and perennials were planted in Summerhill Park as part of a long-range plan for the creation of an arboretum in this historically significant park.

Monarch Butterfly Kits

In celebration of the Club’s centennial, club members assembled 100 Monarch Butterfly plant kits which were distributed to interested community members to encourage pollinator planting.
